Professor George Clarke was selected to take charge of
the Knott County public Schools.
He taught grades kindergarten through eight. |

Professor Clarke received his certificate to teach
“Normal School”, to train teachers. He opened his School,
not only to Knott County, but to the surrounding

Christian Temperance Union Settlement School (W.T.C.U.)
was established at Hindman. |

Caney
Creek Community Center was established for high school
students by Mrs. Alice Geddes Lloyd and her mother Mrs.
Ella Geddes. June Buchanan, a friend, joined the ladies
in 1919. Abisha Johnson Donated land for the school. |

The Carr
Creek Elementary School had expanded to include a high
school to its curriculum in 1920 |

Creek Community Center School was auspices of the D. of
A.R. Daughters of the American Revolution, organized
under the I. of A.R. by Miss Olive B. Marsh and Miss
Ruth E. Watson. |

Caney
Creek Community Center established a two year college. |

Decoy
School established. During the 1984-85 school year
there were two teachers employed. |

School established in 1931 by Miss May Stone and Miss

Beckham
Combs was elected Superintendent of Knott County
Schools. There were 87 schools in the county at this
time ( means of transportation) roads were
rough-walking, horse-back riding wagon. |

Lotts
Creek Community Center High School was established by
Alice Slone. (Teachers were paid a small amount by Miss
Slone, but most of the teacher’s salaries were paid by
the county. |

Upper
Quicksand School was established. There were two
teachers during the 1984-85 school year. |

Kite
Elementary School of Kite, was established. (Grades
1-8) Ferd Slone Branch, Arnold Fork and Mullins Branch
Schools were consolidated. |

1963 the school was renamed Alice Lloyd College in honor
of Mrs. Alice Geddes Lloyd who passed away in September
1962. |
