CECIL BATES AND GENEVA BATES

New Salem Assc./Sep 23, 24, 25 1960 issue

Cecil C Bates was born Feb 5 1884.  Deceased Jan 27 1959.  In 1901 he was married to Geneva Cook.  To this union ten children were born.  Four of which preceded them in death. Six are yet living.  Daddy jointed the church in 1916 and lived a christian life to the end.  He was a pastor of the Powell church for years and no one was any more interested or faithful as Daddy.  The life he lived was an open book to the world.
Mother was born Aug 30 1880.  Deceased Jul 26 1959.  She became a christian in 1925 and attended church till ill health prevented her from going.  They were both steadfast in their belief and were loyal to their church.  They attended church many times when they could hardly go but would come home telling what a wonderful service there was.  We children miss the good advice and wonderful council they always gave us.  We shared our problems and troubles with them and could expect the best of advice and understanding from them at all times.  Daddy would go about singing even when he couldn't go to church and we knew that he longed to be there at meeting time.  The lives they lived before us children were a shining example that we will always be proud of and will remember until we go to our graves.  They were well thought of in the community in which they lived and loved by all that knew them.  They both had many hardships, trials heartaches and disappointments in life but their trust in God to see them through was unwavering.
Now that they have departed this life, never to return to a world of sorrow, pain, and strife, we do believe with all out heart that they are at rest with their Redeemer and we would not, were it possible, call them back even tho we miss them greatly.  We hope to meet them and other loved ones, along with out Blessed Saviour in that Ressurection Morning.  Sadly missed by their children, relatives, and friends.  -(author not listed)
