Bates, Clarence, age 95 of Pinetop, Kentucky, passed away July 23, 1996 at the Hazard Appalachian Regional Medical Center at Hazard, Kentucky. He was born on April 20, 1901, to Joseph Bates and Mary Alice Vanover Bates. He was preceded in death by his wife: Dorothy Bates; 2 sons: Willis Bates and Phillip Ray Bates. He is survived by 2 sons: Hollis Bates of Pinetop, Ky., and Landis Douglas Bates of Garrettsville, Ohio; 5 daughters: Beulah Slone of Munster, Indiana, Wilma Jean Thomas of Cundiff, Ky., Cornelia Baker, Olma Faye Pratt and Eula Fern Slone of Pinetop, Ky.; 1 sister: Flara Thornsberry of Melvin, Ky.; 35 grandchildren, 38 great grandchildren and 7 great great grandchildren. Funeral services were held at 1:00 p.m. Thursday, July 25, 1996, at the Hindman Funeral Services Chapel with Clark Hayes and Bill Hall officiating. Burial followed at the Greasey Burgey Cemetery at Pinetop, Ky. Arrangements were handled by the Hindman Funeral Services at Hindman, Kentucky

Bates, Randall, 26, of Pinetop, was dead on arrival at Hazard Appalachian Regional Hospital, Saturday, September 24, from injuries received in an automobile accident. Born June 29, 1968 in Hindman, he was the son of Hollis and Georgia Hall Bates of Pinetop. He was a construction worker for Ivance Construction Company. In addition to his parents, he is survived by his wife, Tammy Slone Bates; paternal grandfather, Clarence Bates of Hindman; one daughter, Latoshia Dawn Bates of Pinetop; five brothers, Ted Caudill of Algonquin, Illinois, Larry Caudill, Ray Caudill and Thomas Bates all of Pinetop, and Gary Bates of Talcum; six sisters, Jeannie Thornsberry, Patty Thornsberry and Sharon Thornsberry, all of Kite, Jackie Huff of Topmost, Peggy Huff of Dema and Kitty Back of Ulvah. Funeral services were Monday, September 26, at 11 a.m. at the Omaha Bible Church at Pinetop with the minister Eston Amburgey officiating. Burial was in the Bates Family Cemetery at Pinetop under the direction of Nelson-Frazier Funeral Home.     24 September 1994

Martin, Mack, a resident of Litt Carr passed away at his home February 24, 1970 after a sudden heart attach. Mack Martin was a retired miner and was sixty-four years old. Mr. Martin is survived by his wife, Ida; one son, Ed Martin of Celina, Ohio; ten daughters, Ada Music, Baltimore, MD; Sandra martin at home; Sarah Poor, Estella Hanna, Susie Steukenburg, and Ella Jean Heindell, all of Celina, Ohio; Millie Himes, of  Austin, Indiana; Judy Marie Bates, of Cleveland, Ohio; Betty Ruth Amburgey of Litt Carr; and Bonnie Hall of Virginia. Under the direction of officiating Regular Baptist Ministers, funeral services were held in he Little Bethlehem Baptist Church at Litt Carr, Kentucky, Thursday, February 26, 1970 at 2:00 p.m. Burial was made in the Martin Cemetery at Litt Carr, Kentucky with the Hindman Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

Mullins, Hilton-age 66, of Litt Carr, Ky., died on July 9, 2003 at Appalachian Regional Medical Center, Hazard, Ky. He was born on June 21, 1937, in Knott Co., Ky., a son of Pharoh Mullins and Myrtle Jean Gibson Mullins. He was preceded in death by his wife, Agnes Mullins; his parents: and one brother, Hilbert. He is survived by two sons, Neil (Imogene) Honeycutt and Donnie (Teresa) Mullins; one daughter, Elizabeth "Libby" (Clarence) Holland; two brothers, Burl Dean and Edwin J. Mullins; one sister, Madline Conley; one special grandson, Jordan Honeycutt. Funeral services were conducted on Friday, July 11, at 11L00 a.m. at Hindman Funeral Services Chapel, Hindman, Ky., with Bobby Amburgey officiating. Burial followed in Carr Fork Memorial Cemetery, Litt Carr, Ky., under the direction of Hindman Funeral Services.

Mullins, William Garland, 88 a 24 year resident of Royal Oak, formerly of Clawson, died Sunday, June 3, 2001, in William Beaumont Hospital, Royal Oak. He was born August 16, 1912 in Knott County, Ky.  Mr. Mullins retired in 1975, after 22 years as a machinery repairman with the General Motors Corp., vehicle assembly plant in Detroit. He attended Morehead State University in Kentucky and was a member, deacon and trustee of Troy Baptist Church. He also loved to work in his garden. He was preceded in death by one daughter; Patricia Mullins. He is survived by his wife: Nolda S. (Sexton), one son; Mitch (Susan Tyrrell), Clawson, two daughters; Judy (Joseph) LaFeir, Manistee, Phyllis (Rolan) Brooks, Grosse Pointe Woods, one sister; Nora Franklin, London, Ky., five grandchildren, Amy, Allyson, Jodie, Jeffrey and Stephen, one great-grandchild; Emma. Funeral services for William Garland Mullins were conducted Wednesday, June 6, 2001, at the Price Funeral Home with the Revs. Douglas J. Schmidt of Troy Baptist Church officiating. Burial followed at the White Chapel Memorial Cemetery, Troy; memorials, Troy Baptist Church Building Fund.

Mullins, William Hershel- age 53 of Pinetop, Kentucky, passed away July 25, 1997 at the UK Medical Center at Lexington, Kentucky. He was born in Knott County, Kentucky on May 15, 1944, to Carman Mullins and Myrtle Cook Mullins. He is survived by his wife: Shelby Slone Mullins; mother: Myrtle Mullins; 1 son: Destry Mullins of Vest, Kentucky; 4 daughters: Connie Holliday of Hindman, Kentucky, Teresa Slone and April Mullins of Pinetop, Kentucky, and Evelyn Combs of Indianapolis, Indiana; 4 brothers, Fairley, Vernon and Arnold Mullins of Pinetop, Kentucky and Denis Earl Mullins of Monroe, North Carolina; 2 sisters: Joyce Collins Carlisle, Ohio and Lois Jean Slone of Pinetop, Kentucky; 6 grandchildren. Funeral services were held at 1:00 p.m., Sunday, July 27, 1997 at the Omaha Bible Church at Pinetop, Kentucky with Old Regular Baptist Ministers officiating. Burial followed at the Hershel Mullins Cemetery at Pinetop, Kentucky. Arrangements were handled by the Hindman Funeral Services at Hindman, Kentucky. 

Sexton, Ida Mae, age 92 of Pinetop, Ky., died June 18 1986 at Nim Henson Geriatrics Center, Jackson. She was born Jan. 28, 1895, the daughter of Freeland and Phoebe Honeycutt Thomas. Ida was preceded in death by her husband, Sylvester Sexton and one daughter, Olga Turley. She is survived by two sons, LaDuel Sexton of Somerset, Sherrill Sexton of Dayton, Ohio; two daughters, Wanda Armstrong of Jackson, Nolda Mullins of Roy Oak, Mich.; 10 grandchildren; 1- great-grandchildren. Funeral services were conducted Friday, June 20 at 2 p.m. at the Hindman Funeral Home, Hindman, with ministers Ivan Amburgey and Squire Watts officiating. Burial followed in the Steer Fork Cemetery, Pinetop. Hindman Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements. 

Thomas, Canton Roland of Redfox, Ky. entered eternal rest Friday, December 29, 1990 at his home at Redfox, Kentucky. Canton was born May 17, 1933, being 57 years, 7 months and 11 days of age at the time of his passing. He is survived by his wife, Kathleen Finley Thomas of Redfox, Kentucky, Gerald of Jeremiah, Kentucky, David of Dayton, Ohio and one daughter, Lolita Holbrook of Kite, Ky., four brothers: Gen of Florida, F. H. of Ohio, Winford of Pinetop, Kentucky and Harley of Ohio; one sister, Mavis Gibson of Emmalena, Kentucky. Also surviving are nine grandchildren and a host of relatives and friends who mourn his passing. His funeral will be held Monday, December 31, 1990 at 11:00 a.m. at the Hindman Funeral Home. Burial will follow in the Thomas Family Cemetery at Redfox, Kentucky.  Hindman Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

Thomas, Geneva, age 79, of Edgewater, FL, passed away on Monday, February 19, 2007 at Dayspring Healthcare Center. She was born April 23, 1927 in May, KY, the daughter of Tom & Elizabeth (Collins) Vance. She loved gardening, crocheting, singing, and caring for her family. She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Glenn; daughters, Sharlene Bettis & Dori Naone; sisters, Alpha Gibson, Edith Collins, Vanessa Cook & Covey Vance; brothers, Hargas & Dennis Vance. Survivors include her children, Carol (Mike) Hall of Dayton, Cary Thomas & Blanche Rish of Florida, Jackie (Rudy) Campolo of Dayton, Teresa (Rodney) Swope of Huber Heights, Ginny (Eddie) Ling of Dayton; grandchildren, Eric, Daniel, Anthony, Eddie, Cara, Amy, Carmen, Jessica, Jenna, & Mandi; and her great grandchildren, Hannah, Brittany, Sydney, Amber, Kaleigh, Gavin, Abigail, Austin, & Brooklyn. The family will receive friends on Friday, February 23, 2007 from 5-7:30 PM at Newcomer Funeral Home & Crematory, 4104 Needmore Rd., Dayton, OH,. Thomas, Orbin, 71, Pinetop, Ky., died Wednesday, May 16, 2001, at his residence. He was born at Pinetop, Ky., June 7, 1929, the son of the late James Monroe Thomas and Nancy Jane Pigman Thomas. He was preceded in death by six brothers; Forster, Estill, Albert, Gomer, Raymond and Andrew Thomas, three sisters; Bethel Combs, Oma Richardson and Effie Thomas. He is survived by his wife; Margie May Buffington Thomas; five children; Edward (Robin) Thomas, Carolyn  S. Nickles Thomas, Bobby (Donna) Thomas, Rick (Tammy) Thomas and Marty (Peggy) Thomas, two brothers; James Monroe Thomas Jr., Lawrenceburg, IN and Euvernon Thomas, Dayton, OH., three sisters Audia Ennis, Springfield, OH., Nora Bates and Myrtle Spilker, Dayton, OH., eight grandchildren; Shannon (Michael) Hall, Ben Thomas, Scott (Erica) Nickles, Brandon Thomas, Brad Thomas, Crystal Nickles, Dustin Thomas and Travis Thomas, two great-grandchildren; Michaela K. Thornsberry, Flora Bates-age 102 of Cecilia, Kentucky formerly of Melvin and Knott County died Friday, February 9, 2007.  She was born September 12, 1904 in Knott County Kentucky to the late Joseph " Joe"  and Mary Alice "Babe" Vanover Bates.  She was the wife of the late Columbus "Boog" Thornsberry.  Flora was a homemaker and member of the Left Beaver Old Regular Baptist Church. Survivors are: one son, Andrew "Jack" Thornsberry of Louisville, Kentucky and Lonnie Little of Cecilia, Kentucky. 13 Grandchildren and several Great and Great-Great- Grandchildren. She was preceded in death by Parents, Husband, son: Columbus "Buster" Thornsberry, seven brothers and four sisters: Uriah Bates, Andrew Bates, Clarence Bates, Landis Bates, Ernest Bates, Columbus "Dib" Bates, Tilden Bates, Mary Ann Gibson Meade, Rosie Cole, Lilly Fair Lucas and Nebraska Bates. Visitation will be after 5 p.m. Saturday, February 10, 2007 at the church. Funeral services will be held Sunday, February 11, 2007 at 1 p.m. at Joppa Old Regular Baptist Church in Melvin, Ky.  Burial will follow in the Little Cemetery at Melvin, Kentucky.  Arrangements by Nelson Frazier Funeral Home.

Vance, Olive Honeycutt -age 87,of Pine Top, KY. passed away Sunday, October 8,2006 at the Hazard Appalachian Regional Medical Center after a long illness. Born at Pine Top, KY on October 15,1918,she was the daughter of Kit Carson & Lydia Slone Honeycutt. She is survived by her husband of 72 years, John D.Vance;1 daughter - Nasreeda ( Robert ) Short. 4 Sons - Ivis ( Jeanette ) Vance of Pine Top, KY. Hayden ( Glenna ) Vance of Pine Top, KY., George C.
