Mrs. America Combs, 82, died at 7:30 p.m. Saturday in the Homeplace Hospital after a two week illness. She was a member of the Union Baptist Church and a native of Breathitt County. She is survived by five sons, Alex Combs, Midway; James and Willie Combs, War Creek; Edd Combs, Beattyville; and Jerry Combs, Elkatawa; four daughters, Mrs. Grace Thomas, Beattyville; Mrs. Maude Wyatt, Erie, PA, Mrs. Ida Whisman, Phoenix, Ariz.; and Mrs. Bess Davidson, Jackson a brother, Jerry Vires, Frozen; two sisters, Mrs. Nicie Turner, War Creek; and Mrs. Sally Vires, Jackson, 31 grandchildren and 38 great grandchildren.

Services were conducted at 2 p.m. Monday at the Bob Gabbard Funeral Home Chapel at Jackson by the Rev. Clell Miller and the Rev. Robert L. Cundiff.  Burial was in the Miller Cemetery at War Creek.
