Farler, Theodore Jr. Age 77 of Hamilton passed
away at Ft. Hamilton Hospice Unit on Thursday, July 20, 2006 at 7:25 PM. He was
born in Hazard, Kentucky on June 7, 1929 the son of Theodore Sr. and Florence
(Kilburn) Farler. Theodore was a United States Army veteran during the Korean
Conflict and was employed as a project manager with Bushman Conveyor, retiring
in 1992. In January, 1953 in Tokyo, Japan, he married Masai Shibuya. He is
survived by his wife, Masai Farler of Hamilton; two sons, Kelland Farler and his
wife Melanie of Hamilton and Kenneth Farler and his wife Diane of Franklin; one
daughter, Karen Rethlake and Ed Turner of Liberty Township; six grandchildren,
Melissa, Michelle, David, Craig, Evan and Allison; two great-grandchildren
Farmer, Golda (Goldie) Slone - passed away on April
5th 2008. She was born Oct. 7, 1918 on Steer Fork in Pine Top, and raised
on Smith Branch in Mallie, Knott County Ky. She moved to Arlington in Northern
Va. in the early 40's made her home there and raised her children. In 1955
she moved to Clearwater Fl. and lived there until her death. She was known for
her feisty personality, hard work, honesty, loyalty to family and friends and
her wonderful southern cooking. Her mountain roots remained a
constant part of her character all of her life. She loved the mountains,
the music and people. She made many trips back home thru the years, to
visit beloved family and friends. She is survived by her 5 children, Creva
J. Haugen, Chantilly Va., Sarah R. Phillips, Clearwater, Fl., Patricia Shockey,
Leesburg Va., James H. Moore, Clearwater, Fl, Larry Moore, Front Royal, Va., 8

He was a coal miner, and also worked for the railroad, and Foulds Inc, in Libertyville, IL. He was the father of 12 children. He is survived by his children Eugene (Amy) Feltner of Dayton, Ohio, Bonnie (Ernest) Brandenburg of Winchester, Vernon (Carol) Feltner of Las Vegas, NV, Bobbie (Emily) Feltner of Waukegan, Morma (Gray) Willis of Round Lake, Berneace (Wally) Rentz of Scottsdale, AZ, Joanne Mullins of Antioch, Patricia (Tony) Donile of Zion, Randy (Laurie) Feltner of Wauconda. Fields, Jewell Owens ~ age 78, of Hamilton, OH went home to be with her Lord
and Savior on January 6, 2009 at Hospice of Hamilton. She was born in Knott
County, KY on February 12, 1930, the daughter of the late Denny and Elizabeth
(Watts) Owens. Jewell graduated from Carr Creek High School in Knott County, KY.
On October 1, 1947, in Knott County, she married her husband of over 50 years,
Nando Fields, and he preceded her in death on September 26, 1998. She was a
member of Fairfield West Baptist Church. Jewell is survived by her son, Curtis
(Gale) Fields; daughter, Karen Fields, both of Hamilton, OH; two brothers,
Curtis (Pat) Owens of Oliver Springs, TN and Guy C. Owens (the late Teenie) of
Ft. Wright, KY; and many loving nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
The family expresses their appreciation to Dr. Richards and the staff of Hospice

Flannery, Virgil -age 81, of Martin, passed away Monday, October 23,
2006, at his residence. He was born November 28, 1924, in Martin, the son
of the late William Tavis Flannery and Bertha Click Flannery. He was a
retired coal miner, a U.S. Navy, World War II veteran, and a member of the UMWA.
Survivors include two sons, Darbin Flannery of Martin, Virgil Lance Flannery of
Louisville, and a daughter, Priscilla Rose Flannery of Versailles.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Kirby Lee
Flannery; and three brothers, Merlin Flannery, Vernon Flannery, and Burns
Flannery. Funeral services for Virgil Flannery will be conducted Thursday,
October 26, at 11:00 a.m., at the Hall Funeral Home Chapel, in Martin, with
Clergyman Richard Greene officiating. Burial will follow in the Martin
Cemetery, in Martin, with the Hall Funeral Home caring for those arrangements.

23, 2008 at the Hazard ARMC. She was born in Pineville, Ky., on October 1, 1918
to George Collett and Mae Howard Collett. She was preceded in death by Husband:
Elliot Fletcher; Son: Jeff Fletcher; Parents and Raised by: Gladys and Silas
Pope. She is survived by 1 Daughter: Sheila (Michael) Sloane; 2 Sons: Bruce

Ford, Karen "Susie" Calhoun -age 40 of Blue Rock, Ohio, formerly of Knott

She was born January 6, 1968, in Michigan. She was employed by CPI
International as a manager of Walmart North Portrait Studio. Work and family
were very important to Susie. She was the daughter of the late Martin & Clovia

Frady, Dr. Claude P. Jr., 81, of Bowling Green died at 12:40 p.m.
March 27, 2001, at Greenview Regional Hospital. The Wilder, Tenn., native was a
retired Western Kentucky University professor; worked with University of
Kentucky's Bureau of School Services; was a teacher, principal and basketball
coach for Floyd and Knott counties' schools; and taught English at Caney Junior
College, now known as Alice Lloyd College. He attended Wayland High School and
Caney Junior College, where he was one of the "Caney Crusaders;" graduated from
University of Kentucky with a doctoral degree in education; and was a World War
II veteran and Purple Heart recipient. He was a member of First Christian
Church, The Kentucky Association of Secondary School Principals, Kentucky
Association of School Administrators, Lions Club, Kiwanis Club, American Cancer
Society and The Salvation Army. He was inducted into Knott County Hall of Fame
in 1998 and, in 2000, was Alice Lloyd College's Alumnus of the Year. He was a
son of the late Claude P. Frady Sr. and Fannie Hall Frady. Funeral will be at
2:30 p.m. Sunday at J.C. Kirby & Son Funeral Home, Lovers Lane chapel, with
private graveside service Monday in Fairview Cemetery. Visitation will be from 3
p.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home. Expressions of sympathy may take
the form of contributions to Alice Lloyd College, Western's College Heights
Foundation or First Christian Church Building Fund. Survivors include his wife,

of Wayland, Ky., widow of Ray Fraley, passed away on Tuesday, September 14,

born June 29, 1906 in Wayland, Ky., the daughter of the late Elbert S. Martin
and Sarah Webb Martin. Ms. Fraley was the owner of Fraley's Restaurant in
Wayland and a member of Wayland United Methodist Church. She was preceded in
death by her husband and one daughter, Billie Louise Johnson. Funeral services

Francis, Anna B. -age 87, of Brinkley, Kentucky, died Saturday, August
19, 2006, at her residence. She was born in Mallie, Kentucky on
November 24, 1918, the daughter of Marson and Minnie Jones Moore. She was
a former owner of Francis Family Drug in Hindman, Kentucky. She was a
Knott County Retired Teacher, where she taught for 27 years. Anna was a lifetime
member of the Ivis Bible Church and taught Sunday School there for 46 years.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 56 years: Clarence Francis; three
brothers: John Chris Cornett, Earl Moore, Dempsey Moore; and one sister: Mattie
E. Martin. She is survived by two sons: Clarence A. (Jacqueline)
Francis of Maysville, Kentucky and Thomas G. (Susan E.) Francis DMD of Chapel
Hill, N.C.; three brothers: Mason Moore of Mallie, Duran Moore of Lexington and

Francis, Elizabeth Caudill-Our beloved Elizabeth "Bessie" (Caudill) Francis, born February 4, 1907 in Letcher County, Kentucky to Margaret and James Wesley Caudill, passed way peacefully April 4, 1997 in Hazard, Perry County, Kentucky. Bessie is survived by her son Dr. Charles Elbert Francis of San Francisco, California, her daughter, Patricia Ruth Francis Thrash and son-in-law John Curtis Thrash, Jr. of Houston, Texas. She is also survived by seven grandchildren, Michael Charles Francs, Sean Bruce Francis, Michael Bryan Francis, Lisa Francis Heideman, Denise Suzette Thrash, J. D., Dr. John Francis Thrash, MD, Allison Elizabeth Thrash Gadbouis and nine great-grandchildren, Alexandra Francis, twins Derk Gannon and Zachary Gannon Francis, Andrew Heideman, Meghan Patricia Thrash, Christina Michelle Francis, Cassandra Elizabeth Francis, Jordon Thomas Francis and Nicholas Edwards, all of California, Texas and Virginia. Born the seventh of thirteen children she leaves behind two loving sisters, Martha Bailey and Lena Adams, both of Letcher County, Kentucky; and her devoted brother and sister-in-law, Clarence and Ann Francis, of Brinkley, Kentucky; and two dear sisters-in-law, Ruby Caudill of Ohio and Jessie Francis Follick of Winchester, Kentucky. She also leaves behind many beloved family members., cherished friends and in particular their dear children. Bessie was preceded in death by her husband, Lawrence Talmadge Francis, and her three sons, William Cullen Francis II, Marrill Max Francis and Thomas Lawrence Francis. She was known all her life for her great beauty and for her zest for living. Francis, Fred Granville, 87
retired attorney, formerly of Prestonsburg, and Lexington, died June 12, 2003,
in Sarasota, Florida. He was born in Hindman, Ky, on February 14, 1916, to
Hubbard C. and Malissa Pigman Francis. Mr. Francis graduated from Kentucky
Military Institute in 1934, attended Pikeville College, and graduated from
Washington and Lee School of Law in 1939. After passing the Kentucky Bar
exam, he volunteered for the US Air Corps, serving from 1942 to 1946, and
retiring with the rank of Major in the JAGD. Fred practiced law in
Prestonsburg from 1946 to 1985, where he served as a city councilman,
Prestonsburg City Attorney, and Master Commissioner for the Floyd Circuit Court.
He was appointed to the Kentucky Board of Bar Examiners. In 1971 he was awarded
the Outstanding Service Award by the Kentucky Bar Association and also was
elected chairman of the National Conference of Bar Examiners. The following year
he was a delegate to the American Bar Association and was later elected a Fellow
of the American Bar Foundation. Other memberships include the University of
Kentucky Fellows Society, Kappa Sigma fraternity, Scottish Rite Temple of
Florida, Masonic Lodge of Kentucky, Shrine Temple of Sarasota, Pine Shores
Presbyterian Church, and the Argali Society. In 1942 Fred married the former
Marjorie Hopkins of Carlisle, Ky, and they had two children: William Gordon
Francis, now Prestonsburg, and Malissa Allen Francis (deLafosse). Both
Marjorie and Malissa preceded him in death. He is survived by his son and
daughter-in-law, Linda and three granddaughters: Carrie Hamilton Francis of
Boston, Malissa Thompson deLafosse and Lindsey Elizabeth deLafosse of
Greensboro, North Carolina. In 1982, he married the former Joyce Craft of
Hazard, who also preceded him in death. He is survived by step-children Browning
Tinker of Denver, Jina Craft of Denver, and Joseph Craft of Tulsa. The
youngest and last remaining of eight children, Fred was a brother to R. Gordon
Francis, Vertner Francis Clarke, Flo Francis Homes, Paul Brutus Francis, Lyda
Mae Francis, Ruth Francis Isbell, and Robert Day Francis. A younger
brother, Jack, died in childhood. A memorial service was held in Sarasota,
Florida, on June 14, and a second service will take place at the Maggard Chapel,
Centenary Unite Methodist Church, Lexington, on Saturday, August 16, at 4 p.m.

Hawett O'Neil Francis, 65, of Macedonia Road, died Sunday, July 20, 2008, at
home. Mr. Francis was born Aug. 10, 1942, in Smithsboro, Ky., son of the late
Burl and Gertrude Francis of Shiloh. He graduated from Plymouth High School in
196l. He was a retired machinist with CSX Railroad. Mr. Francis was veteran of
the Vietnam Era serving in the U.S. Air Force and was a member of Nelms Masonic
Lodge No. 323 F&A. He was preceded in death by a brother, Eddie Francis.
Survivors include his wife, Jean Francis of White; children, Kim Cheng of Tampa,

Francis, Hobert J. following a prolonged rare illness passed away in King’s
Daughters Medical Center at 4 p.m. Saturday, April 20, 2002. Mr. Francis, known
by his friends as “Hobe” was born may 1, 1918 at Carr Creek,
KY. In 1928 he moved to Ashland Where he owned and operated the Ashland Dental
Laboratory for 50 years until his retirement in 1988. An avid outdoorsman, Mr.
Francis liked to fish, hunt, play golf and garden. Above all, he valued his
family relationship. He
was a member of south Ashland United Methodist Church. In earlier years, Mr.
Francis taught Sunday School and served as a member of the Methodist Men’s

Kentucky, a daughter of Samuel Ritchie and Ellen Fuller Ritchie.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Vinson Francis; two sisters, Sophia
Richie and Doshia Everett; and two brothers, Monroe Ritchie and Corbett

Franklin J. and Trena F. Johnson Fugate. e is survived by his wife: Robin Settle

Fugate, Herbert 68, of Osgood, died Friday, September 5, 2003 at
his residence. He was born at Vest, Kentucky on December 1, 1938, the son of
Jasper and Mary Compton Fugate. He was married to Jean Imel on March 20, 1964
and she survives.
Other survivors include his mother, Mrs. Mary Fugate of Moores Hill, one son
Paul Fugate and wife Diane of Morris, daughters, Betty Scamahorn of Niceville,
FL, and Debbie Hackman of Milan, two step sons, Tom Stroud and wife Betty of
Rochester and Steven Stroud of Osgood, two step daughters Debbie Stroud of
Osgood and Brenda Messer and husband Jr. of Osgood, 15 grandchildren and two
great grandchildren. He is also survived by two brothers Jay and Sarah Fugate of
Milan and William and Roberta Fugate of Holton, three sisters Lois and Harry
Mockbee and Gail and Leonard Haase all of Milan, and Phyllis and Bob Crosswaithe
of Moores Hill.
He was preceded in death by his father, one son Vernon, one granddaughter,
Chelsea Hackman, one brother, Granville Fugate and one sister Pauline Allen. Mr.
Fugate was a 1954 graduate of Milan High School, he attended the Cedar Creek
Community Church and was a member of the Holton Masonic Lodge. He was a former
employee of Fernald, was a farmer and a self employed trucker. He was president
of Milan CB Helping Hands Club. Funeral services were held Monday, September 8
at 10:30 a.m. at Stratton-Karsteter Funeral Home, Versailles with Rev. Garland
Rudd of the Cedar Creek Community Church officiating. Burial was in the
Grandview Memorial Gardens near Madison.

Kentucky, died Saturday, December 17, 2005, at the Nim Henson Nursing Home,
Jackson, Kentucky. He was born on October 26, 1961, the son of Joe Earl & Corina
Caudill Fugate. He is survived by one son: Timothy Dale Reade of Talcum,
Kentucky & Tara Reade of Lagrange, Indiana; Doffie (Jeannie) Fugate of Lagrange,

Fugate, Lee ~ was born January 25, 1920, to Frank Fugate and Eva
Ritchie Fugate. Lee passed away on Friday, March 13, 2009, at the Hazard ARMC
from injuries sustained in an automobile accident. He was preceded in death by
first wife Alta Owen, second wife Alpa Ritchie Fugate, Daughter- Carol Slone;
Granddaughter-Amanda Lee Slone. Lee is survived by his wife- Florine: 1 son-
Frank Fugate of Louisville, Ky., 1 daughter- Linda Sue Marlar of Somerset, Ky.;
son-in-law - Glen Slone of Fisty; sisters- Mable Shepherd of Fisty and Ann
Elizabeth Yonts of Louisville. Lee had six grandchildren and seven great
grandchildren. Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. on Monday, March 16, 2009,
at the Hindman Funeral Services Chapel. Officiating Ministers were Charles
Shepherd, Carl Slone, Howard Owens, and Jeff Combs. Burial followed at the Fisty

RC. also served the United States of America during the Korean War as part of the 19th Infantry Regiment Company "C", being awarded the Silver Star for Courageous Action, three Bronze Campaign Stars, and a Korean Service Medal engaging in: Operations Thunderbolt, Killer, Ripper, The Rugged and Dauntless, and The Chinese Spring Offensive and The Main Effort making him a true American hero. Though he moved across the Ohio River many years ago, he never left his Kentucky roots too far behind, bringing with him a true love of the land and animals. He was an avid and gifted farmer, a skillful hunter, and a talented breeder. He was also an ace mechanic; besides his other talents he loved spending free time repairing automobiles, motorcycles, boat engines, lawn mowers, bicycles, etc. "Master-of-all- trades" is an accurate description. R.C. was such a well-liked individual, in which little things like his smile, deep resonant voice, and welcoming personality are going to be greatly missed by those mentioned above, as well as many other friends, relatives, former coworkers, plus others too numerous to list. R.C. was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas "Buck" and Martha (Cornett) Fugate, his son Robin "Rob" Charlie Fugate, Jr., his brother Olvin Fugate and his brother Arlin Fugate. Fugate, Sina -age 67, of Ormond Beach, Fla., passed away Sunday, Oct. 1,
2006. Funeral services will be held Thursday, Oct. 5, at 4 pm., in the

receiving friends at the funeral home Thursday from 2 to 4 p.m. She moved
here in 1987 from Ohio. Sina loved spending time with her family and

Fultz, Elix 1932-2002
age 70, of New Holland, Ohio, joined his heavenly father on Nov. 22, 2002.
He was born on Jan 3, 1932 in Carter county, Ky., to Charles and Bertha (Nolan)
Fultz. He served in the U.S. Marine corps in the Korean War. He
retired in 1992 from Norfolk-Southern Railroad. In addition to his
parents, he was preceded in death by four brothers and four sisters. Mr.
Fultz is survived by his wife, Helen (Stevens) Fultz of New Holland; two sons,
Phillip (Regina) of Circleville, Ohio, Allen (Wanda) of New Holland; four
grandchildren, Andrew, Alex, Stephanie and Carly; one brother, John Fultz of
Flatwoods, Ky., and a host of friends and relatives to mourn his passing.
